My Role:

Team Management, Directing, Studio & Production Operations, Broadcast Compliance

Background:
Jewelry Television (JTV) was founded in 1993 and is the one of the world’s largest jewelry and gemstones retailers. It has some of the industry’s strongest supply chains with offices in Bangkok, Hong Kong, Jaipur, Mumbai, and China. Their mission is to open up the world of affordable gemstones and jewelry to everyone at unbeatable quality and affordable prices.

Challenge:
In my role as a Broadcast Technician, I was responsible for creating top-quality, engaging content for digital broadcast and online streaming, reaching a national audience of over 90+ million homes. I was tasked to utilize my extensive education and formative technical expertise in broadcast camera operations, lighting design, audio management and engineering, and directing to produce highly profitable, visually compelling content.

Additionally, as I was promoted twice within the first 2 years of my tenure here, it became my responsibility as the Media Asset Manager to manage a team of roughly a dozen Graphic Operators for broadcast. This required me to formulate a best practices strategy and training that would provide direction to the operators to help them achieve success in their careers as well as maintain FCC compliance in a fast-paced, constantly changing environment.

Execution:
My hands-on experience with advanced broadcast equipment and grip work enabled me to execute flawless productions that consistently met the highest industry standards.

In this position, I collaborated with diverse teams of producers, directors, and technical staff to ensure seamless live broadcasts and recorded segments. I handled multi-camera setups, managed complex lighting configurations, and optimized sound quality to create an immersive experience for viewers. My proficiency in post-production editing, including the use of industry-standard software, contributed to the delivery of polished and professional media assets and deliverables.

After my first year, I was promptly promoted to the role of Graphic Operator, where I was provided more responsibilities of ensuring quality broadcast content through on-air graphics and various media integrations. Following my second year, I was promoted to Media Asset Manager, where I leveraged my keen attention to detail and legal compliance knowledge to save the company millions of dollars in potential legal expenses. I ensured that all broadcast content adhered to strict legal guidelines, protecting the network from costly safe harbor violations and other compliance issues. My efforts were instrumental in maintaining the company’s legal integrity and reputation in the competitive broadcasting industry.

Results:
In this role, I also played a key part in streamlining internal processes. I helped implement a cutting-edge graphics operating system, which significantly improved the efficiency of on-air graphics, reducing response time by 51%. Additionally, I developed and led a training program for staff, ensuring that the new system was integrated smoothly and effectively, boosting team productivity and overall broadcast quality.

Throughout my tenure, I consistently demonstrated a high level of technical proficiency, strategic thinking, and the ability to collaborate across departments to drive both operational success and cost savings. My combination of technical skills, industry knowledge, and commitment to operational excellence has allowed me to contribute meaningfully to the success of broadcast operations on a national scale.

Furthermore, my tenure as a Media Asset Manager and keen perception to legal jargon and compliance with FCC regulations allowed me to save JTV approximately $2 million to $4 million in legal expenses, safe harbor action, etc. (Please note that this figure is not an exact range. This number could be higher depending on a myriad of variables, not all of which are available to me.)

SHOWS

While Jewelry Television is a live 24/7 and produces a wide variety of different shopping and educational programming, these are some select shows that I was more directly and heavily involved in production.

ROCKAFELLAS

The prime time spot on Fridays from 6 to 8pm ET that blended comedy, education, and sales. This show helped me refine my time management and communication skills by necessity. It was always jam packed with content that required my expert skills as a camera operator, graphic operator, audio engineering (playback), and grip work to pull off. Though it was often fast-paced and chaotic and required adapting to situations on the fly, it was incredibly rewarding to work.

LOOKS FOR LESS

One of the newest shows to be added to the programming during my tenure, Looks for Less was focused on providing viewers with luxury jewelry at affordable and costume pricing. Capturing sleek and elegant hero shots as well as directing models to show off the look were just a few of the many responsibilities I held to elevate this show into a hit sensation.

PAULA DEEN JEWELRY COLLECTION

From the best-selling author and restaurant entrepreneur came the latest trend in the jewelry fashion industry. The Paula Deen Jewelry Collection series was one of the most beloved and popular collections JTV had the pleasure to release, and collaborating with Deen herself made this project a thrill to drive production on.
